Vaping Do’s and Dont’s

There has been much criticism of vaping by non-vapers, and this negative perspective has only been exacerbated by selective media reports. So it’s extremely important that we, as vapers, are conscious of our actions and courteous towards non-vapers so that we can enjoy vaping without offending others or perpetuating negative stereotypes.

Here is a list of vaping do’s and don’ts to make sure everyone around you is comfortable when you’re vaping.

  • Blow vapour in others’ faces. It isn’t funny, it’s disrespectful and can even upset fellow vapers. Not a good idea.
  • Vape in indoor spaces without the consent from the owner of the space and others in the space. You may enjoy the smell of your new e-liquid, but not everyone will, and some people may even have allergic reactions to being exposed to vapour over long periods of time.
  • Vape in cars, houses, or small spaces with minors. Children have no control over their surroundings and should not be subjected to smoke or vapour in a confined space. Watching you vape could also give them the idea that vaping is cool and that they should try it—and that’s not something anyone is trying to promote.
  • Purchase an e-cigarette or vaporizer on behalf of a minor. This is not only illegal, but also encourages vaping in young people. Vaping was created to get people off of their nicotine habit, not to start one.

  • When in public, try to exhale your vapour directly up or down to keep it out of others’ personal spaces. Be sure to note the wind conditions, as even a light breeze can blow your exhaled vapour into someone else’s space.
  • Try to use a small, low-powered device in public. Large, high-powered vapes that create large amounts of vapour may disturb others in the surrounding area.
  • Be aware of smoke-free spaces. These bans also apply to vaping, and should be adhered to. Even outside, most buildings will list the minimum distance from entrances or exits that you can smoke or vape. Be respectful and make sure that you’re far enough from any doors.
  • Vape in designated smoking areas.
