Battery Safety

Vape batteries are great because they’re rechargeable and fairly inexpensive. However, it’s important to know how to handle them properly to keep you and your vape safe.

Condition

The condition of your vape batteries is a great indicator of whether they are safe to use. Batteries that have damage to the wrap in any way should be considered damaged, as the exposed part of the cell can unintentionally create a circuit and cause harm. Similarly, if the insulator (the ring at the positive end) of your battery is damaged or missing, the battery should not be used.

Keeping your vape batteries in prime condition is the best way to avoid any trouble, and keep your vape performing optimally.

Transport

When carrying your batteries from one place to another, you’ll want to make sure that they are packed away safely to prevent any mishaps. If a vape battery makes contact with anything metallic, it could complete the circuit and result in a fire or explosion.

Keeping your vape batteries safely stored in a battery case or silicone skin an absolute necessity. This covers the positive and negative contacts, protecting them while in transit.

Use

There are a couple of ways that you can keep your batteries safe while they’re in use.

First, you’ll want to ensure that the vape you’re using doesn’t require more amperage from the battery than it has available. The amperage of the battery is normally listed on the side of the cell itself with its unit, A. Exceeding the amperage limit of your battery in regulated mods will be detected as an error in the system, and won’t allow you to use the device at that level. But unregulated devices don’t have a chip to manage the battery output, so surpassing the amperage limit of the battery can potentially lead to bodily harm.

Second, batteries used in a dual-battery mod should be “married”. This means that they should be of the same brand and specs, and should be used together so that they have the same amount of discharge and recharge. Keeping your batteries married maintains their performance long-term, and prevents one battery from discharging faster than the other.
